These efforts are at the cutting edge of the international response to HIV/AIDS and other pandemics that threaten global health.
Supporting Special Initiatives with the National Institutes of Health

PSA will plan a meeting for the Protein Structure Initiative (PSI):Biology Network July 19-20, 2010. The PSI is a 10-year, $764 million initiative spearheaded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS). PSI aims to reduce the cost and time required to determine three-dimensional protein structures, and is a key element in structural genomics research. PSI:Biology is the third and final phase of the PSI, and focuses on the biological problems that can benefit from protein structure determination.

PSA will also be planning a meeting for the NIH's Synchrotron Advisory Board. A synchrotron is a type of particle accelerator, and NIGMS and the National Cancer Institute have been utilizing synchrotrons to further structural genomics research.
